| Workshop news, and the Hughes Rally |
Spent the weekend down south: the Hughes Rally was down in Kent, and headed south east as far as the Isle of Oxney and the marshes.
- Great tests set by Dave Hughes himself
- Bank holiday Sunday meant that the public road sections were a little fraut, but it's always a pleasure to visit my grandmother's stamping ground of Appledore.
- The navigator (me) had a strange day: every section plotted perfectly, but I just couldn't concentrate and wrong-slotted twice during the day
- also the tripmeter was erratic for half the day: the new Hall Effect sensors were set a little too far from the magnets.
- Emma had a pretty good day on the Special Tests, managing 6th on two of them.
- With all our tribulations we managed 24th overall, which is about the worst result we've ever had on the Hughes
The workshop
- Terry's P1800E is with us, as we sort out
- brakes: a dodgy servo seems to be the problem, but there's also an issue with the RH rear handbrake assembly
- overdrive: was switching in & out randomly in all gears, probably a solenoid fault, but this may well have caused knock-on problems.
- Beago's 244, was desperately in need of a proper service after years of inadequate "maintenance" elsewhere
- Full service, and at 86,000 miles I suspect this is the first time the cambelt has been changed
- The ignition HT set was so old that it was misfiring quite badly
- MoT
- The B230A motor is now truly delightful: effortless speed at low revs
