| Kio's Amazon on the Lahti Historic Stages |
Kio Wiklund has been in contact with us throughout this year as he competes in the FIA European Championship. On this last round (the Lahti) Kio dropped from 2nd overall to third in the championship.
He has mentioned that he'll probably sell the car at the end of the championship, so if you're thinking of investing in a very competitive, proven and sorted Amazon, I can put you in touch with him.
- As for myself: I was out on the Huntsman on Saturday/Sunday, co-driver for Richard Atherton in his Rover 200.
- Good rally overall
- Hugely entertaining selectifs (tests, or mini-stages)
- The daytime roadbook had very erratic mileages, which would have caused some of the less experienced navigators a few moments of self doubt, and I found irritating, particularly if you've paid £250 to enter.
- Excellent night section: at last an Endurance rally that required the co-driver to think under pressure.
It's been a long time coming, with most of the other organisers putting in ridiculously trivial navigation, which means that everyone cleans the sections with minutes to spare, apart from the occasional silly mistake, which we can all suffer. - Speaking of which, I checked into one control in the preceding minute, and before I had gathered my thoughts the marshall gave me the current time, rather than upcoming minute: result was 1800 penalties (30 minutes) for clocking in early.
Now this in no way reflects upon the marshal, this is pure NavigatorError: 2am in the morning, and the one control that I wasn't thinking quickly. Rats! - As for the rest of the organisation: excellent HQ venue, perfect food, although I could have murdered a cup of tea at the 3am rest halt.
