| That's no Volvo! But it's Swedish so that counts, doesn't it? |
We have Keith's Saab 96 in for some minor fettling and electronic ignition set up.
It's been excellent to work on, all sorts of interesting approaches to engineering, and so different as befits an aero business.
It's been apparent that it takes me almost twice as long to achieve any work on the Saab, compared to our Volvo's. This is no reflection on the Saab's construction, more an observation as to how quickly we can achieve jobs on our cars, simply because we are the marque specialist. So, my observation is simple, whatever car you run (ancient or modern), go to the marque specialist, as you are almost certainly going to save money simply because they will work more efficiently, and usually have all the parts in stock.
Therein lies another train of thought... We often see "field fixes" that make us cringe, however this isn't usually willful neglect on the part of an owner/garage, it's almost certainly because they don't know where to get the correct part, nor do they have the time to wait for it, so the "temporary fix" becomes permanent.
Musings on a Bank Holiday Saturday morning, now I'm going to deliver Billy's 132 Amazon to Kent, with it's sexy new engine... have a good one!
