| "Top Gear" Volvos, and Webers... |
Now, having entered a vegetative state early on Sunday evening, we found ourselves tuned in to BBC2's "Top Gear". Don't get me started on this program, 'cos it sometimes irritates me beyond reason.
However last night saw James May in Finland on a sort of rallycross event in a yellow Volvo Amazon (producing 200bhp apparently). James' target at one point was to "beat the Volvo"; whereas in fact there were 3 other Volvos in his race:
- James May's yellow Volvo 120 Amazon
- A blue PV544
- A black 140
- A dark 240
Sort of sad to see them getting heavily abused I suppose, but in honesty it is unlikely that the cars were in good enough condition initially to be saved from the breakers yard.
Webers We're currently fitting a single 45DCOE to Richard's car, which arrived with twin 40's. Thoughts on this are...
- Probably no drop in redline power: the engine had the original iron manifold, now that it has the 4branch tubular unit, it'll breathe a lot better, but of course the single 45 will not be as efficient as the twin 40's
- We expect about the same mid-range torque, simply because gas velocities are going to higher with the single venturi feeding two cylinders.
- The set up needs a wee box to be let into the inner wing to accomodate engine movement and airfilters.
This should be running within a couple of days, the main issue being to create a set of 4 stepped washers to match the thinner inlet manifold to the thick section exhaust manifold.
